Vice President Stephen

President Maria Stephen

Major:  History, Political Science, & Philosophy
Concentration: Legal Studies
  • An elected position 
  • Sits on various University Committees including the University Governance Council and Council for Diversity and Inclusion
  • Communicates the administration’s point of view to the student body – often initial contact for student governance for other governing bodies and administrators on campus 
  • Attends Executive Board of Trustee’s meeting as an observing member 
  • Holds weekly Cabinet meetings to discuss updates and projects. 
  • Meets weekly with Student Government Moderator (AVP/Dean of Students) to discuss Student Government activities and initiatives 
  • Meets as needed with the VP for Student Formation & Campus Life to discuss recent resolutions and policy coming from Senate 
  • Meets as needed with the Coordinator of Clubs and Organizations to discuss events and expenditures for the week 
  • Advises Vice President on committee appointments, Senate initiatives, and other Senate related activities. 
  • Schedules, along with the Vice President, semesterly one-on-ones with Student Senators 
  • Assists with the development of retreats and trainings for student senators 
  • Sets goals and objectives for the Student Government with input from Cabinet, Senators, Moderator, and students.  
  • Responsible for making decisions of Student Government Reserve Funding Deposits and Expenditures in tandem with VP for Student Formation & Campus Life 
  • Upon request, appoints students to University committees such as the Publications Board, etc.

Major:  Nursing
  • An elected position 
  • Chair of the Senate 
  • Organizes and plans Student Senate agendas with assistance from Cabinet and Senators 
  • Compiles and submits post-meeting packet from Student Government Senate meetings within one week of senate meetings to the Coordinator of Clubs and Organizations, Student Government Moderator, Vice Provost for Student Formation & Campus Life, and the Director of Technology 
  • Meets with potential groups for club and organizations charters 
  • Holds weekly meetings with Committee Chairs to discuss updates and committee projects. 
  • Meets weekly with Student Government Moderator (AVP/Dean of Students) to discuss Student Government activities and initiatives 
  • Meets as needed with the VP for Student Formation & Campus Life to discuss recent resolutions and policy coming from Senate 
  • Meets as needed with the Coordinator of Clubs and Organizations to discuss events and expenditures for the week 
  • Schedules, along with the President, semesterly one-on-ones with Student Senators 
  • Coordinates Student Senate training and/or retreats 
  • Sets goals and objectives for the Student Government with input from Cabinet, senators, Moderator, and students. 
  • Sits on the Board of Trustees committees and University Planning Committee or delegates duty to appropriate Committee Chair.

 

Chief of Staff Lamar Bishop

Chief of Staff Lamar Bishop

Major: Business Administration
  • An appointed position
  • Encouraged to have experience in Student Government
  • Advises the President and Vice President regarding vision and goals of organization, Senate on-goings, and various issues
  • Serves as Senate Parliamentarian by ensuring the Constitution, By-Laws, and Roberts Rules of Order are followed in each Senate meeting
  • Coordinates Cabinet
  • Schedules and coordinates weekly Cabinet Meetings
  • Manages all day to day affairs of the Cabinet, including but not limited to ensuring staff attend office hours and are completing tasks on time
  • Represents Student Government and updates clubs and organizations on Student Government programs/initiatives at monthly Club Council meetings
  • Meets regularly with the Coordinator of Clubs and Organizations/SG
  • Solves issues or problems before they reach the executive level
  • Directs and facilitates Fall and Spring Student Government Elections with the assistance of two Election Commissioners as approved by the President, Vice President, and moderator.
  • Oversees the planning and execution of Grocery Bingo with support from Athletics and Programming Committee
  • Manages comprehensive list of all SG projects and initiatives and their progress
  • Expected to respond to any emails received within a 24-hour time period
  • Attend weekly Cabinet Meetings
  • Hold three Office Hours per week in Student Government Office
  • May be asked to sit on University Committees as assigned
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

 

Executive Treasurer John SinclairExecutive Treasurer John Sinclair

Major: Political Science & Public Policy
  • An appointed position
  • Reports directly to the Chief of Staff
  • Approves Student Government expenditures, provides direction on financial projections and articulates spending parameters
  • Responsible for monetary transfers for Clubs and Organizations
  • Oversees the budgeting process, including club allocation meetings, for the clubs with the aid of the Appropriations and Student Transitions Committee
  • Meets weekly with Finance Intern to ensure proper use of Student Government allocated funds
  • Records and analyzes all spending activities of clubs to keep accurate reports and ensure spending is compliant with the Constitution and Bylaws
  • Meets daily with Coordinator of Clubs and Organizations to discuss club and organization activities and expenditures
  • Meets with club leaders on an as-needed basis when requested
  • Meets weekly with Appropriations and Student Transitions Committee Chair
  • Advises the Appropriations and Student Transitions Committee in regard to club's and organization's requests for Appeals and New Initiative Funding (NIF)
  • Presents budget-related topics at Club Council Meetings as necessary
  • Provides monthly updates to the President, Vice President, and moderator on club, organization, and Student Senate spending
  • Updates the Student Senate on club, organization, and Student Senate spending on a monthly basis
  • Attend weekly Cabinet Meetings
  • Hold five Office Hours per week in Student Government Office
  • May be asked to sit on University Committees as assigned
